“Faworki” (in English “Angel Wings”) are among Polish favourite sweets. These crispy pastries are traditionally made in Poland during Carnival and Fat Thursday. Another commonly known Polish name for “faworki” is “chrust”, which means “bushwood”, because the pastries are so fragile and crispy as thin, dry branches. Ingredients for 3 big plates
4 egg yolks
230 grams of flour
20 grams of butter
1 tablespoon of vodka or rum
100 grams of sour cream 18%
icing sugar to sprinkle
1 litre of oil (for frying)
Method 1.First, crack the eggs and put the yolks into a bowl. 2.Then add flour, butter, rum and cream. 3.Mix and knead the dough until it’s smooth. 4.Cover the dough tightly and put it into the fridge for 1 hour. 5.After that, sprinkle the top of the table with flour and roll the dough really thinly (1-2 mm) 6.Cut the dough into rectangles of 3 cmX12 cm. 7.Make a 3-4 cm cut in the middle of each rectangle parallel to the long edge. Next flip one of the ends of dough through the hole. 8.Pour the oil into a big pot and heat it. 9.Fry the pastries till they are light golden. Be careful, don’t burn yourself! 10.Next, place “faworki” on the paper towel to remove the excess of fat. 11.Finally, put them on a plate and sprinkle with icing sugar. Enjoy!
